Some pretty messed up shit was done to the mentally ill and “unstable” way back when. Lobotomies is a perfect example of that. I came accross this book MY LOBOTOMY  by Howard Dully who, at the age of 12, was one of the youngest people to ever get the procedure.  That was in 1960.

Lobotomies freak me out.

That was what Joseph Kennedy (father of JFK) had done to his daughter. She acted up and embarrassed him; he had her declared retarded and arranged for her to have a lobotomy. Of course, he also hoped Hitler would defeat England.

Generally, in fact, that was the kind of “treatment” suggested by those who believed in eugenics - very similar to Nazi “race science”. In other words, anyone who would deliberately do that to another human being is a cold, calculating, vicious…

I’m amazed anyone who had a lobotomy ever managed to relate their experiences in a book. (Even with the aid of a ghost writer.) I’ll have to look out for that one. Although I fear if I find a copy, I won’t be able to sleep for at least a month.
